MY PORTFOLIO

Since starting my journey in 2017 I have had lots of different experiences across different media platforms including television, radio and newspapers. Please see below for examples of some of the work I have been involved with.

AT THE RACES/SKY SPORTS RACING

2018-

As part of my university course I was required to undertake a professional work placement, In January-March 2018, I spent three months with At The Races in Milton Keynes at their studios and production office. Whilst there I learnt how the channel operated and worked in the role of a researcher/assistant producer. I also shadowed Luke Harvey, Mick Fitzgerald & Hayley Moore during live outside broadcast on several racedays. Since January 2019 I have worked on the relaunched Sky Sports Racing as a freelance researcher.

RACING POST

2018-2019

In July 2018, I shadowed Lewis Porteous & Graham Dench at Brighton and Sandown respectively. I learnt how they gathered stories on a raceday and collect the information to produce a report under strict deadlines. At Sandown I interviewed bookmakers & punters about a wrong result in a photofinish. The quotes I received were used as part of a wider racing story.
For further experience in January 2019 I spent a week at the Racing Post head office in London. During this time I was based with Katherine Fidler as part of the features team. I also produced and researched statistics on the Cheltenham Festival for Stuart Riley as well as overseeing the creation of Postcasts.

THE FEMALE FURLONG

2018

For my Final Major Project at University I made a 30 minute documentary called The Female Furlong looking at the History of female jockeys. I produced, filmed, researched and interviewed everyone during the making of the film. I worked alongside the Silk Series filming at some of their fixtures and interviewed the likes of Hollie Doyle and Sam Cone. I also interviewed multiple British Lady Champion Jockey Elain Mellor about her career who was an important jockey in the 1970s & 1980s. The documentary also featured Wynne Tufnell brother of Meriel Tufnell who was the first female jockey to win a race in Britain. For a link to the film please feel free to contact me.

BBC RADIO SUSSEX

2017-

In 2017 & 2018 I was the Racing Expert for BBC Radio Sussex at Glorious Goodwood. Working alongside presenters Alison Ferns and Tim Durrans I have provided tips and racing stories to engage with listeners. In 2019 I served as the roving reporter based in the winners enclosure providing live updates and interviews. Some of the names I interviewed included Frankie Dettori and Megan Nicholls.

BBC RADIO FIVE LIVE

I shadowed John Hunt at Glorious Goodwood on the opening day of the festival. I was able to practice commentaries in front of him in the first two live races. Also practiced rehearsing live reports on breaking stories during the racing.
